1997: The Inception at Kashi
The foundation of VAP was built on a shared vision to elevate Ayurveda's status within India and across the globe.
The Spark: Inspired by Respected Laxman Shrikrishan Ji Bhide, who championed Indian heritage worldwide, a group of dedicated Ayurveda lovers gathered to address the stagnation of the field.
The Birth: On the auspicious day of Varsh Pratipada, the idea for Vishwa Ayurveda Parishad was officially conceived in the holy city of Kashi.
Founding Registration: The organization was formally registered under the Societies Registration Act 1860 (Reg. No. 420/97-98).
Initial Leadership: Prof. Jagnnath Sharma (HOD Pharmacology, AIIMS, New Delhi) took a pioneering role in guiding the legal and academic framework of the society.
Late 1990s – Early 2000s: Building the Foundation
During these formative years, VAP focused on uniting the best minds in the field, from government officials to top-tier academicians.
Political & Academic Synergy: The Parishad was served by eminent leaders including Ex-CM and Central Ministers bridging the gap between Ayurveda and national policy.
Institutional Strengthening: Under the leadership of Presidents like Prof. Y.C. Mishra, Prof. S.P. Mishra, and Prof. B.M. Gupta, the organization expanded its influence across educational institutions and medical boards.
Other eminent personalities who were present at the time of the commencement of the Parishad were respected Omprakash Ji and Dr. R.N. Pusalkar(Varanasi),Dr. Yogendra Singh (Delhi), Dr. B.B.L. Srivastava (BHU), Mr. Radhe Shyam Gupta (Lucknow), Mr. Prem Shankar Gupta (Lucknow), Dr. Manmohan Lal (Lucknow) , Dr Shaligram Gupta (Prayag), Shri R.R. Agarwal (Lucknow)
The Era of Regional Expansion
Growth was driven by selfless leaders who took the mission to the corners of the country.
The Southern Surge: Late Prof. PBA Venkatacharya Ji played a pivotal role in strengthening the VAP network across all southern states, ensuring that the organization had a truly pan-India presence.
The Chitrakoot Tradition: Vaidya Nand Lal Ji of Prayagraj initiated a landmark program of residential visits to Chitrakoot. These trips allowed students to study Ayurveda in its most natural, ecological setting, a tradition that defined VAP’s commitment to practical learning.

Late Prof. Vd. P.B.A. Venkatacharya
A monumental figure in the history of Vishwa Ayurveda Parishad was the Late Prof. Vd. P.B.A. Venkatacharya.
A true titan in the field, he was a National Dhanwantari Awardee—the most prestigious honor in Ayurveda, conferred by the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India.

Vishwa Ayurveda Parishad now stands as a global powerhouse, representing the collective voice of Teachers, Researchers, Authors, Clinicians, Entrepreneurs, and Social Reformers and Students (TRACES).
Current Focus: Aligning with the "Ayurveda@2047" vision to integrate Ayurveda into the mainstream national health system.
Our Presence: Chapters across every major state in India and a growing international footprint.We have strong presence in all the leading academic institutes across the Bharat. VAP has its working units in every state, except for a few and union territories.
Today, this tradition of excellence continues under the guidance of our current visionaries. Prof. Baldev Dhiman, the former Vice Chancellor of Shri Krishna AYUSH University, served as our National Vice President. Furthermore, our erstwhile National President, Prof. Govind Sahay Shukla, currently serves as the Vice Chancellor of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Rajasthan Ayurved University, Jodhpur, ensuring that VAP remains at the heart of India's Ayurvedic academic landscape.
